Instructions
1️⃣ Prep the Steak
Cut steak into 4 portions. In a shallow dish, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Pound each piece of steak with a meat mallet to ½-inch thickness. Dredge in seasoned flour, coating well.
2️⃣ Brown the Meat
Heat oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sear each steak for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown.
Remove steaks and set aside.
3️⃣ Sauté Veggies
In the same pot, add onion, celery, and carrots. Sauté for 5 minutes or until softened.
Add minced garlic and cook for 1 additional minute.
4️⃣ Simmer
Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, and bay leaf.
Return the steaks to the pot, spooning the sauce over the top.
5️⃣ Braise
Cover and simmer on low heat for 1.5 to 2 hours, or bake at 325°F (165°C) until the meat is fork-tender.
6️⃣ Serve
Remove and discard the bay leaf. Serve steaks smothered in the rich gravy over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.
Tips
✔ For extra tenderness: Braise for up to 3 hours over very low heat.
✔ Make ahead: Flavors deepen when refrigerated overnight.
✔ No Dutch oven? Use a deep skillet with a foil or tight-fitting lid cover.
Enjoy!
