We’ve all experienced that moment of discouragement when we take a dishcloth out of the washing machine and, despite a thorough wash, those famous stains are still stuck in the wash. Greasy, dark, persistent… they seem to have settled in for good. And yet, there’s a simple, quick, and truly effective method for getting rid of them. You’ll be surprised at what a simple microwave run can accomplish!
The problem of dishcloths that no longer want to be clean again
In a well-kept kitchen, a dishcloth is essential. We use it everywhere: to dry our hands, clean a stain, handle a hot pan , etc. The result? It gets dirty very quickly. And sometimes, even after several washes, these dishcloths retain a dull, greasy, almost sticky appearance.
It’s frustrating, especially when you like your kitchen to be clean and tidy all the time . So what do you do when conventional products just aren’t enough?
A homemade method as surprising as it is effective
One day, after yet another failed wash, I decided to try an unusual trick I’d picked up during a conversation at the market: cleaning a dishcloth in the microwave. Yes, you read that right.
Here’s what you need:
- Marseille soap or solid laundry soap
- Citric acid (or lemon juice)
- A heat-resistant, airtight freezer bag
- 50 ml of cold water
- A microwave
Step by step: how to bring your tea towels back to life
- Soap generously: Wet your cloth thoroughly and rub it with the soap until you get a nice lather. This is the basis for effective degreasing.
- Wring carefully: Once soaped, wring it out to prevent it from dripping. It should remain damp, but not soaking wet.
- The smart fold: Fold it into a square and slip it into the freezer bag.
- Prepare the magic solution: Mix 2 teaspoons of citric acid in cold water, then pour this liquid into the bag onto the cloth.
- Microwave: Open the bag slightly (no need to close it completely) and heat at 450W for 2 minutes . Be careful when removing it: the contents will be very hot!
- Let the magic work: Once the bag is out, let it cool. It’s while it rests that the chemical reaction works on the stubborn stains.
- Final rinse: Rinse the cloth thoroughly under running water to remove dirt and residue.
- Dry… and admire! Your tea towel is clean and refreshed . No more stubborn stains!
